Food Science Happenings: University of Illinois

By: Bethany Richardson

Each semester the food science & human nutrition graduate student association (FSHN GSA) at Illinois  likes to put on a few social events; in addition to the annual welcome back picnic, this year we welcomed in the holiday season with a cookie and gift exchange.  Everyone brought three dozen cookies and a small gift to play white elephant with a variety of appetizers to snack on.  Everyone was well-fed and had a great time, including our dog who was very jealous of all the cookies.

What did your food science club do to celebrate the end of the semester? We’d love to hear what fun activities everyone has been up to!

Science Meets Food

The IFT Student Association (IFTSA) is a forward-looking, student-governed community of IFT members. Through competitions, scholarships, networking, and leadership opportunities, you’ll set yourself apart from your classmates (unless they’re members too).

  1. Can’t end the semester without a Christmas Party! I actually didn’t get to attend a cookie exchange this year, but those are always fun! 🙂

  2. Our club went out for drinks and appetizers after finals were over and the Southern California Institute of Food Technologists held their December dinner meeting/holiday party on a ship and some of us were able to attend. It was nice to see that professionals aren’t always all about business; they know how to have fun too 🙂

But what our club REALLY needs is a dog like you guys have!
