Food Science Happenings: Alabama A&M University

By: Janika Hull

Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University’s Food Science Club hosts an Annual “Welcome Back” Mixer for the students, faculty, and staff of the department. It is an opportunity for incoming freshmen and new students to meet and mingle with returning students, as well as future professors. The students are also given an opportunity to meet the student leaders in the department. The event is a potluck where students and faculty cook their favorite dishes to share with everyone. The menu is also contributed to by the Food Science Club and Phi Tau Sigma. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly, which is furthered accompanied by a speech from Dr. L.T Walker, Dean of the College of Agricultural, Life, and Natural Sciences, and an icebreaker, “The Family Game”. The game requires students to meet and learn interesting facts about one another. The night ends with a great meal, along with budding friendships within the department.
