Food Science Happenings: Texas Tech

By: Emily Wolter

Texas Tech University made a “Dippin’ Dots” look-alike, appropriately called “Raider Dots”, and served them up to all of the inquiring minds at the Animal and Food Science Department’s annual back-to-school event, Ag Fest. Veterans of the department have come to expect that cloud of evaporating liquid nitrogen to be present at the TTU Food Science Club’s booth.

The club is also developing a new t-shirt for all of their members inspired by the TV show, Breaking Bad. Their play on words resulted in the phrase, “Breaking Bread”.

Their first meeting included approximately 30 students, including  food science, animal science, and nutrition majors. The club organized an intramural flag football team, which had it’s first game this past Tuesday. They also  formed a team to work on the Disney/IFTSA Product Development Competition. In addition, they had a sign-up for Race for the Cure and plan on participating in Relay for Life this spring. College bowl practices will begin in the next month.
