Student Activities at the IFT AMFE

By: Emily Wolter

I hope you have registered for the IFT Annual Meeting and Food Expo in Chicago…It’s right around the corner, July 13th – 16th! In addition to indulging in too much pizza, students have a slew of activities to look forward to…

Walking the show floor. This is a must. Companies from all over the globe come together at this meeting and it’s the perfect opportunity to explore the new innovations in food science and network with industry professionals and other students. Just be sure to be courteous about taking samples and conversing with people.

College Bowl Competition. This 28th annual tradition is a must see. The teams always have a fun time and offer up some fierce competition. The competition is preceded by the IFTSA Mixer.

IFTSA/Feeding Tomorrow Fun Run/Walk. This annual tradition is always a lot of fun. Sure, it’s early, but it’s a relaxed atmosphere where you can get to know people better, jump start your day, and raise money to support student scholarships.

Chapter Leaders Workshop. If you are an incoming Chapter President, you will gain a lot of insight by attending the Chapter Leaders Workshop and leave feeling empowered to start off the year right!

Student Product Development Competitions. A number of student competitions take place at the AMFE. Familiarize yourself with the competitions here and be sure to stop by at least one of the competitions…these students work very hard and are excited to showcase their products!

Student Research Posters. At various times throughout the meeting, research posters will be showcased on the show floor. If you are interested in new research within a certain field or are thinking about attending graduate school, this is the perfect opportunity to learn more!

Undergraduate Research Competition. Check out what research undergraduate students are up to by visiting their poster and oral presentations.

IFTSA Party. On Sunday night, IFTSA students of all ages are going to be gathering at the Landshark Beer Garden at the Navy Pier to start off the meeting socializing with friends, both old and new!
