This year the University of Tennessee-Knoxville Food Science Club has been keeping busy and having fun! Each month we’ve spent two days helping a church in the area host a Food Pantry for families in need while also providing hair cuts or clothes. We went to prepare the pantry one day by setting out and organizing the food. The next day we helped carry their groceries and give them someone to talk to while they were waiting in line. It was a great way to help out in the community and see the impact we can make as club.
In addition to service we have had a few great social events this semester. In October we helped out with Ag day, giving out cheese samples for our upcoming cheese sales and also helping serve Big Orange floats to everyone in attendance. It was fun seeing everyone getting excited for our football game and socializing. We also had a Cookie Demonstration near the end of November, just in time to start baking all those holiday cookies. We had an expert from the UT culinary school come and show us how to make lemon scented sugar cookies and spiced ginger cookies. We decorated and of course ate them. It’s been a fun semester and we are already planning some great activities for the next.
